Direct Anterior Approach

Direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery represents one of the most advanced and least invasive techniques for hip joint replacement.

Dr. Giacomi has been one of the leading specialists in Italy for years in this procedure which, compared to traditional techniques, involves less blood loss and a quicker post-operative recovery, thanks to the type of incision.

In fact, we are talking about an incision of only 6 cm at the inguinal level, either longitudinal or transverse (bikini access).

It can be performed on all patients but is particularly
indicated for those who suffer from early osteoarthritis and for athletes.

It is performed under local-regional or spinal anesthesia.

The operation lasts about 35 minutes. In most cases, it does not require transfusions, a bladder catheter, or stitches.

Joint recovery is extremely fast: just a few hours after surgery, the patient can get out of bed with the aid of two crutches and bear full weight on the operated limb.

You can also assume a sitting position because the incision is anterior and not posterolateral or direct lateral like other accesses. All this fits well with the protocol FAST TRACK.
